Today sex ratio in many states of India girls per thousand boy is very low. For example take an example of Bihar a state in India here sex ratio is 918 girls per 1000 boys. Bihar is considered as poor state of India. Illiteracy rate is high, girls are not educated, preference of boy education is high. Parents don’t want girl as their successor.
While the pandemic has accelerated digital platforms for learning, earning and connection through internet but the ratio of girls is very low in access to internet as compared to boys. Many girls,women does not have mobile phone even. Alash! This is our society.
Girls are more likely to be cut off. The gender gap for global internet users grew from 11 per cent in 2013 to 17 per cent in 2019. In the world’s least developed countries, it hovers around 43 per cent.
But the gender digital divide is about more than connectivity. Girls are also less likely than boys to use and own devices, and gain access to tech-related skills and jobs. But parent only allowing their boys to go through internet surfing and buying new gadgets for them why? Only by addressing the inequity and exclusion that span geographies and generations can we usher in a digital revolution for all, with all.
